I am trying to figure out if there are any scorpions native to Iowa. So far, I'm coming up blank, but I'm only finding a few mentions of scorpions in the northern state, which only include one genus.

Where can I find more information?

There are no scorpions indigenous to Iowa. There is a small colony of Centruroides vittatus in southern Illinois in Monroe and Randolph counties from what Ive heard. Be warned before you go wandering through the woods trying to find some... those counties hold good populations of A. contortrix and A. piscivorus (and some C. horridus too)... Watch where you tread and keep your hands where you can see them. ;)

In all my years here, I've never seen a cottonmouth, a rattlesnake or a copper head. If I happen to run across one, there WILL be pics on the boards, rest assured;) .

The area where I'm planning this adventure is right next to a children's summer camp where I grew up, so I'm not too worried.

When doing research, I found out that only three species of snakes aren't protected in Iowa.

Anyways...yeah. I always carry a cane type stick just in case.
