A bottle cap with NO cotton

and how long does it take scorpions to molt or change instars
Depends on which species and what instar they are in

I assure you it's not in it's first instar, possibly second at the least... note an instar is the period between molts, so they are born into I1.

I got several desert scorpions and they don't drink from a bottle cap as far as I know. They do drink from stones (or the glass) I made wet with a spray can. I have seen their habitats, and there are no bottle caps with water or small puddles around. Moisture comes from slow drizzles that happen now and then, or fog.

I keep a snake from the same habitat and the only way I have seen it drink is from licking and sucking waterdrops from the glass.

Too much moisture and my scorpions die (been there sadly) or get mycosis (ditto). Too little and they can dry out, which can happen very fast and very sudden (2-3 days a high temperature in the house for example). Providing large pieces of rock to hide under reduces the risk somewhat is my idea. Finding the right amount of ventilation holes/grid ditto.

i think you just need to drop a few water under hides, not at all hides. so that your scorp can move around if its looking for some humidity. :p

As people have said, you don't ever really need standing water for scorpions. They will get all the moisture they need from food or occasional misting.

I give my adult desert species a water in bottle cap. I usually just fill the bottle cap with water and I just let it dry. I'd offer water 1-2 times per month. Believe it or not I sometimes see my Parabuthus liosoma sitting in bottle cap with half or 1/4 water in it.
