So a lady walks into the store today and asks me if I want a leopard gecko. I've mentioned to her before when she's stopped by that I'd like one when I can afford it. Well, she said her son got bored and she was the only caring for it. So guess who raked in the awesomeness thanks to some kid's lack of enthusiasm? This guy!

This is what I ended up getting for free today, crickets (she came in and bought them and then came back and just gave them to me), a bag and a half of fluker's moss, two pieces of decor ranging around 30 bucks at our store, water bowl and powder bowl, cricket food (orange cubes, went bad in the care though so I tossed it), repticarpet (sticking with papertowels for now), cricket keeper, ten gallon tank with lid (kind of rusty but it was free!), a decent stand, dual thermometers, and dome and light. Oh, and the gecko. Sorry if this sounds like bragging but this makes up for pretty much all the crappy customers I have to deal with. I will be in a much better mood next time I go to work!

PIctures! https://www.facebook.com/photo.php?...27010011.48097.131619876967970&type=1&theater

LOL

Well, I really don't feel like setting up an account at some other sites but I'm sure I will eventually... I have to upload it to facebook from my camera to shrink the file size after I save the photo to the computer. I'm sure there may be an easier way.

But if I must I can upload pics here without linking to my FB page.

Same thing happened to me a few years ago. Except I got a 20 gallon tank and two very sick geckos. The gecko's had metabolic bone disease, it was severe too. It was so awful, they barely could eat. I gave them up to a friend but they died a couple months later. I kept the tank and everything though.

Very cute critter.
Now put MS Image Resizer into your search engine, download it and never let us hear you snivel about oversized images again. ;)

:( that sucks. There's a reptile rescue group nearby so if this guy shows any signs of illness I'm going to give him to them. Possibly adopt him back (I'll pay whatever fee) if they get him back. But here's hoping that doesn't happen.

From my days at petsmart, I got...

2 A. versicolor
1 G. rosea
3 Leopard geckos
3 White's Treefrogs
1 Crested gecko
2 Crayfish
1 Southern Leopard Frog
1 Green Anole

Not all of these were free; some of them were sick animals that the store sold to me at a reduced price. The crested gecko and two of the three treefrogs were acquired this way. The anole and two of the frogs died; the frogs had a disease called chytridiomycosis (well known amongst amphibian enthusiasts) and the anole was brought to me in a severely emaciated state.

The three leos are still around. One of them was almost dead when I got him, but I managed to turn him around (with the help of a vet) and he never fails to cheer me up when I'm having a crappy day. The other two were malnourished and had shedding problems due to vitamin deficiencies, and one of them had trouble with abscesses for a while; the worst one happened next to his left eye, and now it looks kind of odd, but it only ends up giving him more character.

Sweet!

Yeah, we've had tons of adoptable pets but I either didn't want them or couldn't afford all the other stuff they need. I said that to the customer. She's like "I will give you EVERYTHING plus a stand". How could I say no to that? Even if I wasn't going to keep it, which I am, I could easily sell it for like 40 bucks with everything and KEEP the stand lol. The size this guy is we would have sold him as a jumbo for around 80 bucks.

I love the treefrogs and long tail lizards. They're a lot of fun and easy to catch. %%%$ those anoles lol. They're really cool but God they're wiry little packets of energy! The bahama anoles are pretty awesome looking too.

A friend of mine adopted a crested gecko from PS because it lost its tail and was considered defective since it doesn't grow back... still could have sold it! There must have been two dozen mice and hamsters adoptable. We've had babies (I adopted one) and males but we're a female store so we adopt them out sometimes. Maybe half a dozen guinea pigs. A few bearded dragons, chinese water dragon (at least one), A canary (130 dollar value!) and a couple of finches. A couple of koi too. I'm sure other stuff I can't remember. Mostly, the employees take them home.

Nice, yeah I used to wind up with animals people didn't want anymore a lot, and I don't even work in or near a pet store.

In high school, I was given newts who were TINY and refused to eat anything but pinhead crickets, a fire-sided skink missing it's tail and toes, rough green snake, and I think a few others but it was ages ago.

At the last bakery I worked at, I wound up with someone's daughter's mice who kept having babies because they were too stupid to separate the sexes, an adult rex rabbit who was living in a 29 gallon tank all her life, on a solid floor of feces (and would growl and LUNGE at you! before then I didn't know rabbits could growl), a ferret someone dumped off at my front door with esophagitis and later adrenal disease, a kitten with ear mites, worms, fleas, and food allergies who I still have to this day, a corn snake that I was SUPPOSED to take but the guy fed it a live rat and the rat killed it... ... and someone tried dumping guinea pigs on me and I actually said no. That was the last time anyone tried giving me animals. When I had the ferret dumped off on my doorstep, at the vet's I had a couple more people wanting to give me ferrets as well. Crazy people.
