Everything I've read says these guys max out at about 7-8 inches, but I saw some at a show today that were 9" and fat. They are from krazy8invertebrates and Chris says they will get even bigger. He called them Tucson Desert Giants. Does this local have bigger pedes than other parts of the desert or do all heros get this big? Either way I think I'm going to have to go back tomorrow and pick one up. I picked up a Scolopendra subspinipes sp today. That is my first pede

I went back today but ended up getting another subspinipes. The first one I got was a Hong Kong Giant. I almost got the heros but couldn't resist the vietnamese for 18 bucks. I got that one from LLL but working with Krazy8s was great. Chris even offered to drive a pede out to my house at a later date. So now I have a Vietnamese and a Hong Kong Giant. I know these aren't exactly beginner pedes but I've been keeping herps and arachnids for many years. Never worked with anything hot other than widows though, but I think I have enough common sense. You've got to take the step at one time or another and have to be a little insane to do so.

Any ideas on how big the giant heros get???

That's roughly 7 inches and is what I've read as well, but the pedes Chris had were a good 9 inches and he said he's seen them over ten. That's almost as big as subspinipes. I definitely know they were heros too. They fit the description and Chris knows his stuff.

I've got an S. heros that's pushing 9.5" right now... I will try to get pics up in the near future, but they definitely do not max out at 7".

I recently sold a particularly fine specimen about 10 1/2 inches long. It looked like the old S. g. robusta. I have documentation for a locality with confirmed 14 inches specimens. Don't ask. : )

Some females lay eggs at 7 inches but then you have the monsters.

Cheers.
