Hello everyone,

I am looking for any interesting book about spiders. I would like to know these animals better. Things like "tarantula: how to care for them" is always good to take but if you have good scientific titles about ethology, anatomy or physiology I would be very happy to order them. I started reading "The spider biology" and I just can't wait to finish it, this is just so interesting. So please if you know any book, autor, .. I'll take these info with gratitude

Thanks

I don't know if it is the same but I like Biology of Spiders, imo, is the best outside of the hobby. Other than this one, I don't think I know any, but if you are really interested into the scientifical side, go to World Spider Catalog, lots of good scientific articles there. Some of them are old, but you'll learn how to filter them within time.

There's an english book by Peter Klass named Tarantulas in the Vivarium, I think this is the english version of Vogelspinnen. However, I believe both versions are out dated, maybe.

Yes, I own the last German version of Vogelspinnen and it's pretty outdated. Last version is from beginning of 2000 years. I stopped gathering informations from it and use this forum instead. But it has really nice pics of T's.

This is the exact same book. I can't read german though I wish I could learn :(

When I see them I might ask one of my teachers at uni for some titles or autors. They might have an idea. Thank you guys tho

The book is already "the Bible"! You won't find anything better and more comprehensive!

I found another Bible, biological facts based on the Cuppienius salei. Very expensive, but with a bit of luck you can find a used copy!

Aside Foelix's Biology of Spiders, none other come to mind, but this new one above... how does it compare ? I found Foelix's book pretty intense at points, but I did read through from beginning to end. Did I retain everything on there ? Of course not, there's just too much to process. Will have to revisit at some point.

Edit : Oh, the Barth one is only about C. salei ? I'd rather much prefer a more generalized book rather than focusing on a single species. Tho it's probably the best C. salei book out there ;)

I suspect the price is related to the low demand. But it is a real treasure trove of knowledge! I paid € 60 for a bound used copy and would buy it again. But be careful: it is not an illustrated book, it is full to the brim with scientific facts and observations!

It is just as demanding as Foelix's book. It is based to 90 percent on observations by Cupiennius, but this does not mean that the knowledge excludes other species!

The new one from Platnick, Spiders of the World - A natural history, is algo very interesting.

Specifically about tarantulas, there is the one Perez Miles edited, New World Tarantulas, with lots of scientifical articles, you can read more about it in here:

Wow! £81.65 GBP to buy the e-book - rather than ‘rent’!

Found it on Amazon and can get the Kindle edition - but even worse price!
