That might be a bit too "big" for a scarlet, make sure you have plenty of hide spots.

I wish you luck with that scarlet king.
You know any history of it?
Is it WC?

If its WC be sure to have access to plenty of blue-belly lizards . . .

They come from Florida, so wet and warm- ish, slab of cork to hide under, lots of plants for cover.
They are nocturnal, so if you wanna see it, get a red bulb.
Mine always liked to move around just under the surface of the substrate, which was leaves on top of cocofiber.
It was most active after a heavy misting.
Just make the cage look real pretty, cause you wont see the snake much.

Mine was wc and I could never get it to eat a mouse, only lizards(got pretty good at noosing them off trees).

thanks for all the comments and advice. I have been reading up on this species. I guess, their main problem is diet.

it is coming in later today, so i'll keep you guys posted.

congrats on the scarlet it's a beautiful snake..lol too "big". but yeah just make sure it has lots of hides and a shallow dish to soak in and you'll be all good..also on a side note when feeding you should watch to make sure nothing else is swallowed because scarlet's are easily more susceptible to impaction.

...also don't keep your sub to moist .. an over moistened sub can cause sores on scarlet's it's better to keep it somewhat dry and provide the dish as suggested earlier..also i don't know how big yours will be but the larger snakes love small lizards.if you have any other ?'s don't hesitate to give me a shout I've bred and kept these guys for years

well first its a king snake, you don't want to make it wet. That well just give you problems down the road. The diet is easy. rats and mice. I have couple snakes that are Cb but there from the same place as your snake. Depending on if the snake is CB or WC is what you can do. Ten gallon tank is perfect for a king snake. If you really want to get down to business. Look up pictures of his home in the wild and try to mimic that in your cage. King snakes are hardly animals and they can leave any where. But for the coldest places on earth. all you really need to do is give him some hiding places if you want and water bowl and heat and feed him or her once a week. Nothing to it. If you need help or anything just let me know. Ive been keeping snakes sense i was five.

thanks for all the helpful tips everyone.

I got her on Wednesday and recently offer her a pinkie today. I hope that she'll eat. if not then i am going to have to buy an anole or try to catch a skink so that i can rub their smell onto the pinkie to get her to eat.

she's currently in a 5 gal tank. once she starts to eat, i'll move her to a 24x24x24 cube tank.

I contacted someone for a male already, eventually, i want to breed them. they are very neat little snakes.

i always feed my snakes out of their cages so you don't have to stress about it. I keep mine in snap lock Tupperware containers due to my black milksnake always finding a way out of her damn cage.

i would do that, but the problem is that my scarlet king is really shy when it comes to eating. i have to leave her with her food alone for a whole day before she'll touch it.

Try this- put the snake and the mouse in a brown paper bag, fold the top over, and give it like an hour.

Thats the best way to get them to eat faster.

Its good that your scarlet already took a mouse, thats a great sign.

Wheres the pics . . . ?
