Perhaps she needs a little time to calm down...

It might help to explain that he didn't escape because he was trying to get out and attack people but because snakes are curious. Make it clear to her that you've taken precautions to stop it happening again (new/stronger runners for instance) and explain that when he escaped he was probably very frightened and didn't really understand where he was or what was going on - he just wanted to get back to his nice warm viv.

In the meantime, it would also be a good idea to print off some information from reliable sites on the web giving details of pine snakes and making it clear that they are not venomous or aggressive - that might also reassure her.

If you do end up having to get rid of him (as a last resort), www.livefoodshop.co.uk/forum has a classified section where you can advertise him for sale or rehoming. I can offer a safe home for him, but we're a bit far from you!

I'd give her time to cool down, and don't mention snakes at all for awhile. If you have to get rid of him, I'd be glad to take him in, but unfortunately I'm in the US. I love Pine Snakes myself, and have a seven-foot Northern Pine male I found on my sister's property(she and her husband bought a 56-acre horse ranch in the Carolina Sandhills-prime Pine Snake territory). He's never even hissed at me, not even when I first picked him up.
