I want to get a Savannah Monitor cause they are a smaller species in the Monitor Family and they are more affordable than some of the other species. The question is, are there any tips? I am buying some books and reading up on their care.

if you want a smaller sp of monitor you might want to go with ackies or timors rather than a savannah. it's true that they don't get as big as some varanids but they still get large and need a cage that's 3' x 6' at a minimum when full grown.

Ackies are a good choice. Of course, I am a big fan of tegus, but like savs, you are looking at a 4'-5' animal that will need at least a 4' x 8' cage.

Jeremy caging is why I went with the Tegu. They can be about the same and the only reason I tease about "smoochie" having attitude is she is Columbian. Argentina and Columbian are like night and day as far as attitude from what I was told. She is defensive and jumpy but not aggressive. They can be just as tame and smart but get smaller. Price isn't really that bad either. The others are a good choice too. From what I was reading on Savannah the ideal cage is going to be about as big as your coach, like 9 foot long for adults as where Tegus your looking at around 5-6 foot long "ideally". Any monitor/tegu your going to have to work with but they aren't bad if you work with them and keep safety in mind.
