Hi,
Hadrurus Arizonensis the desert hairy scorpion is a desert species that I've seen being kept on sand, and they can be kept together in small numbers. They aren't particularly venomous, but can be very defensive so they aren't the best if you're looking for something very docile.

I dont think those are communal, I mean I have only seen 1 setup where the person housed 2 of them together, but dont be surprised if one day you wake up and one is missing and the other is super fat :p.

Vaejovis spinigerus or striped devil scorpion is smaller and can be kept communal and arent very venomous

Yeah, I guess you could say they're "semi-communal". With enough space there shouldn't be a problem, but it can be kind of hit or miss. Should've mentioned that in my post :p

How about hottentotta hottentottas? I have a colony of babies all living together with no probs so far. But im planning to keep in a few small groups as they mature. My current adult is fat and happy living in a dry mixture of sand and coco peat. But i think they fare pretty well on plain sand too

i have aso heard that the Centruroides Vittatus can be kept on a sand substrate. they only require medium humidity (60%-70%) which can be obtained with a waterdish and maybe a few drops here or there. Plus you can house them together, and do very well communally if you give them enough food. All they require for hides is a verticle piece of bark or wood. They even breed well.

Mesobuthus martensii are not stricty desert scorpions, and do well with a bit of humidity. As such they should be kept on a substrate that will retain a bit of moisture, at least in one corner. A bit of coco fiber or moss sprayed down a couple times a week will suit the humid corner, and be sure to keep a full water dish in there.

These are excellent scorpions in my opinion. Terrestrials with a bit of arboreal in them, I often observe mine hanging upside down in their various hides.
