i don't know of anywhere to catch them in the sa area, but in austin, there is a pretty good little exotics shop that breeds their own Ts, and has them marked at a pretty reasonable price. it's called zookeepers exotics, and if you google it, you can find directions.

thank you very much i didnt want to resort to pouring water down their burrows (personally i think its kinda mean) but if you think about it im leaving the burrow intact so other animals could use it rather than digging and destroying it and im "finding to keep" rather than just to take pics, it just want one though im not a hunter just an enthusiast BTW the video helped i see holes everywhere around where ive been looking but cant get all the way down there there but this will help alot do any of you guys live near san antonio??

Welcome Aboard;

I am ninety minutes away and I travel to SA quite often. Anything I can help you with, don't hesitate to ask.

I've shopped around SA for deals and I've found the following: Try RiverCity Exotics (210)681-1552, and ask for Mike. He often carries an assortment of Ts, but a bit pricey. For all your other supplies like substrate, KKs, corkbark, hides, crickets, etc. go to Alamo Aquatic (210)681-1411 and speak to Jason or Gabriel. I've known these guys for a while now and they're good to go.

Hope this little info. will help you get started.
Welcome to SA,

Hey I have always wondered about tarantulas down there in texas. It seems like it would be pretty warm year round. Do they go dormant in the winter? Can you only really find them in the wild during the warmer months or do standard techniques for finding and catching them work year round?

from what i know about terrestrial tarantulas is that their most always in their burrows year round unless looking for food or finding a female to mate with, i did go out today and use the water trick on very possible burrows and got nothing i watched that video like 4 times i also went mad rock flipping, i saw standard Twebbing around some rocks and logs but also turned out with nothing, its great to know where to buy them if i have to i will check out the places you guys suggested but i would really like to find and capture one myself or with a little help, i did also look at some threads on areas around san an but most of the time they just told what city didnt mention if it was a state park or a valley next to this river or anything so it dosent help me that much but thanks for the input i dont have any friends down here and this site gives me other people to talk to

I was there a a year ago and saw a bunch of burrows but didn't figure out they were t's til I got back. When you get the chance though visit the Water Walkways. That is cool.

yeah the river walk, Oops, I meant the river walk, idk why I was thinking of Water Walkways, eh. That is a cool place. I wasn't all impressed with the Alamo. They made it more upbeat with today and it doesn't seem old fashioned like it should be at all but oh well. Just go out in the woods or an open field with and I am sure you will find a Tarantula hole lol.. There everywhere.
