So, im like... Panicking. I was setting up a new tank for my LP and i looked over to the one she was already in and i noticed that there is a red liquid oozing from scar like cracks in her legs directly under and directly above the joint. I don't handle her and i know for a fact these appeared today. But, she also has a bald spot on her abdomen and recently refused the anoles she'd usually eat without hesitation and i have heard that some tarantulas ooze before they molt. Right about now i took a break from writing this and went back to the spider tank and the bleeding has stopped on all but one of her legs but the scar like indents are still there (duh). She is on the same baked potting soil shes been on for the past year and I've never seen her do this before, THOUGH i did recently add some wild live peat moss and a a bit more potting soil. Could i have brought in nematodes? Or is she just oozing for a molt?

Also, her movement doesnt seem to be impared but shes become more active (i think the activness is from the setup changes though)

Post some pictures, I'm not sure what red liquid you could be seeing, as hemolymph is usually clear. I saw blue fluid many years ago, but I've never seen red.

In any case, legs arent that important. If one or two are damaged beyond use, the spider will amputate

Sadly, i cant post picture until my mom gets home, though the oozing has stopped now and it wasn't much to start with. Though the scratches themselves are sort of red as well... I though the coloration was strange as well because though this is my first tarantula, i did research and have come across no accounts of red hemolymph. Have you ever had a tarantula ooze around the joints before a molt? not necessarily red ooze but just ooze in general. (lol me avoiding spelling that masterpiece of a word again)

is she just oozing for a molt?
might be molt fluid, I mean a picture speaks a thousand words. if she fell or got some kind of injury she would probably just pop off her legs. not hungry is always a (somewhat)good indictor for pre molt. if your animal due for a molt?

Anoles? You mean the lizard? That's kinda... unethical. I know there are feeder anoles for things like snakes and predatory lizards, but if you're grabbing wild caught anoles that's a whole other problem, too. Anoles like to bite things and not let go which may stress your tarantula out but you shouldn't be feeding live reptilians or mammals to your critters anyway.

EDIT: Disregard what I said about fluids and stuff, listen to boina.

1. Feeding anoles is unethical - unnecessary and unnecessarily cruel. They do feel pain after all.

2. A tarantula does not ooze fluid from anywhere before a molt, ever. Oozing fluid is never normal, but it can be a sign of dehydration induced cracking of the cuticles.

3. Parasitic nematodes don't come from soil. They only come from other, wild caught tarantulas.

Your tarantula will pop off the leg of it feels the need to. They have valves that basically shut off blood flow. Also, I know anoles are omnipresent here in the south, but it is still unethical, cruel, and harmful to both the tarantula and the anole. You wouldn't feed your dog stray cats now would you?

I don't think intelligent was the word i was looking for, but they feel pain and are curious about things and some seem to be social and stuff like that, i just think its cruel. My boyfriend put an anole in her enclosure once and i fussed at him when i found her munching on it

maybe it could have used its intelligence to build guns to attack your male friend and escape. also those things are filthy i wouldn't feed them to a T. I made a ethacacy of feeders thread somewhere but forgot where I put it. they are pretty dumb asked one to hold my wallet for me never saw it again...the wallet was still there though.
