I have a couple of Pecan Trees (official tree of Texas) in the back yard and they drop hella branches! I stash them in the corner of my yard just waiting for Brush collection day HOWEVER I was wondering if it would be safe to try and sterilize some and use them in my arboreal T tanks. I usually boil stuff like that but is that sufficient? I plan on getting more Tree dwellers so it would be nice to know if this is safe.

I use poplare branches off my trees. Boil a bit. Throw them in the oven or a while... I just make sure all the Loose bark is off.
So far there hasn't been any problems.
And my arborials Love it.
Nuking helps too :).

I do go overkill with sterilizing. "natural" decor.....

I just microwave cork bark to kill any bugs that might be in them.
Remember, a lot of experienced keepers (including Rick West) just use plain old unsterelised garden soil for substrate...

Okay guys, I'm gonna do it this weekend. You only have a couple of more days to prevent me from possibly making a big mistake:eek:

Well, the bark may or may not be a good idea. It depends on the concetration of pecan oil in the bark. I'm an expert on pecan oil. If you want, you could send me some samples of pecans - preferably in a pecan pie made from your pecans. I could then tell you whether or not the branches are safe.

Jon
