Hi Zibi,
Sorry you had to wait for an answer.
A mature male S. calceatum's color is much more drab and dull than the female. They lose a lot of the striking contrast in their pattern, so to speak.
What really gives them away though is their "shape". A mature male calceatum is even more leggy and slim looking. I also noticed that when my S. calceatum (now on breeding loan) male matured, the bristles on the tarsal segments had patterned to form a very aerodynamic or "wing-like" appearance. (hope that makes some sense)
Once a male matures, he may live for another year, maybe a bit longer. Not likely more than 2 years past maturity.
Hope that helps. :)

Hi.
To be honest, I don't really know. I have never bred them before. The guy that has my male has bred them with success once before. I'll see what info I can get from him.

See ya.

Another question (sorry for that) ;)
How long it takes before male and female become mature?

Captive males can mature as early as 2 years. Females probably don't mature for 4 years or so, give or take. This is general information though. There are a few things that would effect the timing such as feeding frequency, temperature and such.
When I bought mine, it still looked like a small juvinile, at maybe 3" legspan. I had it 3 weeks and it molted out mature. It also grew at least an inch in one molt.

Hope that helps. :)
