I posted this question on a reptile forum and received no input. So I'm bringing it to Arachnoboards where no question goes unanswered.

First let me start by saying,I live in the boondocks! I also love reptiles.Until recently I resisted the urge to venture past my turtles. The prime reason behind this is our ever present threat of power outages. This past winter we dealt without power for a few weeks off and on.Not a big deal for hibernating turtles. However,I recently acquired a baby Savannah monitor and have grown rather found of this little monster. In order to keep him healthy and happy I need to start preparing for the inevitable.I need any input I can get from members with a similar situation. What kind of inverter do you use. What type of battery will give me the most run time between charging and so on...

Winter will be here shortly and I need to have the proper frame work in place any input would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,Mike

The best battery would be some sort of deep cycle battery. They are used for marine applications and also lifts(ex. scissors). I would recommend Trojan. For the inverter you will need to find the power usage of the light(s) and if you are using a heatpad that will come to in play. The other options would be generator which would be noisy and a pain but the best option for you would be going to solar power, but thats a whole new ballgame.

Between fuel costs and noise factor it just makes more sense to me to run off of a battery at night, and off the generator during the day while the battery charges.Any idea how many hours I can expect to get out of a deep cycle?

Thanks.

Call these guys. They are the closest Trojan dealer I found to your location. They should be able to answer your questions better than I. Good luck.
