Roaches and Mites

I picked up some Madagascar Hissing Cockroaches today, but upon later inspection have found several little tiny mites on them. What can I use to kill the mites without harming the cockroaches?

um... maybe put the roach in a dish with shallow water see if the mites come off. That or if the mites aren't too tiny maybe get some tweezers :D

it's easier than you think.

at the zoo we just spray them with water from the sink (using the hose attachment) for a few seconds to get the mites off.


and yes that's safe. we do it even on the endangered species (Nicrophorus americanus).

Arent their good mites that clean beetween the roaches grooves, like with millipedes?

Some species of mites are host specific to hissers. They just do their clean up without harming the roach. Although I myself would probably do the same as you did...

just put them in the microwave for a few seconds. that should do it.
haha just kidding dont try this at home......
