I know this has probably been asked a thousand times before so sorry about that. I could probably look on caresheets too for this information but I'd rather get the opinions of someone who's kept them rather than just studied them.

What roach species have live births? My G. Portentosas do I know but I'm looking for a faster growing species. I don't want to put substrate in a roach tank (I learned that lesson the hard way lol) but I know the eggs need it. I've been thinking about B. Dubia but I can't find if they're live birth or not and if not what the eggs require.

That is a pretty long list! For the extent of the info you are looking for I might defer to the Allpet Roaches Forum, or look up the American Roach Society.

But yes, Blaptica dubia are live bearing. It seems a majority of the roaches popular in the bug trade are.... the most common would be the Lobster Roach.

Thanks for the answer. I'm really looking into the Dubias so now that I know they are live bearing they will be a cake walk to keep.

Darn, I really want to get a colony started asap. I'm so sick of crickets! I work at a petstore and dread everytime I need to open the cricket bins for a customer. So disgusting and they never stay alive for long. And they bite! It doesn't hurt or anything but it leaves a mark.

I've received a few roaches this week, they were shipped priority without heat packs. I didn't have a single lost and the temps were in the 20-30s.
