this individual makes me wonder if it's a bad idea to house Blaptica dubia with Gromphadorhina portentosa.

is it just a pretty dubia, or what?

no, that's not a hybrid, it is just one of their morphs. I have a few and am trying to breed more of those.

Can those two cross-breed? It seems like way too many differences for it to be possible... Then again what do I know about them...

I am about 99.9% sure that they can't cross breed.

Nothing that does don't have the same genus name can hybridize...for example, you can house any Blatta roach with any blaberus roach and be ok in regards to hybrids, but you should not house 2 different species of blaberus roaches together,or they could hybridize.Hybridized FEEDER roaches aren't always a bad thing. Some are better producers are a more feedable size as a result of hybridizing.Like anything else, hybrid roaches should be labled as such and not let to contaminate the gene pool of pure blood colonies...IMO.

agree

no chance of them hydridizing.some of my dubia females are gorgeous solid black with red markings others are dull brown, just happens that way, when i feed them i tend to feed more of the dull ones hoping eventually to have a whole batch of the cooler ones

if it's the same genus, innit an intergrade, not a hybrid?

Nothing that does don have the same genus name can hybridize...
one example jumps to mind immedeately; jungle corns, Elaphe guttata x Lampropeltis getula?

thanks for the replies, i believe the question was answered in the first reply, thanks KyuZo!

There are MANY inter-generic snake crosses that shouldn't be possible.
I'm sure given time and a bit of hocus-pocus that the same will happen with inverts.

please understand that plants and inverts are different.
although, things that hybridized un-naturally can be done by scientists. it is call G M O

Jungle corns are snakes, not plants. They're a hybrid between corn snakes (genus Elaphe) and kingsnakes (genus Lampropeltus). If you do a bit of research on snake hybrids you'll find that many unexpected crosses have been achieved.

snakes are cool, but i don't like to keep them.
I thought that you were refering to corn, the plant.
