well, my mom found a a few male dubia around the house.

now she wants to call in an exterminator.

i know i can tell her all the facts. what what is the best advice now?

i have counted my females, and have more than what i had 3 days ago, so the most that could be out is 2-3.

has there EVER been an infestation of B. dubia?

i feel screwed and need all the help before my mom goes rancid and kills everything. advice?

will extermiators insist every species of coackroach will breed and multiply by 9000 fold overnight, and can grow to 10" and eat a yorkie (our dog) <sarcasm>

just be all chill and say they are feeders like crickets, and cant survive like the domestic roaches.
aploligize for the inconvenience,
Although at this point it probably will look like youre guilty about something, like not knowing for sure.. :)

well theres an old Johnathan Swift saying that athiests like to use.

"It is useless to attempt to reason a man out of a thing he was never reasoned into"

irrational beliefs generally are carried to the grave. My wife KNOWS that my dubia colony cant infest our cold, dry house. She KNOWS they aren't the same as blatta roaches from her days in south carolina. She KNOWS they will save us hundreds per year on crickets.

yet she metally blocks out that entire half of the room, runs if i touch the tank, does the "lalalala" thing if i talk about them. and reminds me that she knows it's irrational, she knows its unreasonable. But she is compelled, beyond all measure of control and reason, to express fear and disgust towards these animals.

She is even capable of awknowlaging that she is wrong. But not capable of tolerating that which has already become a hardwired anxiety trigger.

An anxiety attack can feel like dying, you can become paralyzed, breathless, go into shock, tremble uncontrollably, vomit. Just the IDEA of that attack, or the feeling of its onset can trigger a full out attack.

So all you need to feel doom and trigger a full-on psychotic episode of catatonia and paranoia is a glimpse of the object or situation that is the focus of your phobia.

The very idea that you could ever convince your mother (who has years of subjective practical reinforcement) to set aside her most primal survival instinct is truly, an fools errand.

You would require a drastic step like long-term therapy (probably wouldn't work) or a chemical or surgical lobotomy (probably would).
