This is the first time I managed to catch a video clip of it. Seems like they always stop just as soon as I get the camera ready. Here's a Blaberus giganteus trying to fly out of its cage. Click!

It's not shot from the best angle, but there was actually quite a bit of height to that flutter. I've seen my dubia, orange heads, lateralis, and other Blaberus males do this. I actually had a fusca-craniifer hybrid escape this week while I was packing an order. It flew up out of the cage. Luckily, I caught it later that night.

Thats crazy!! Ive never seen ANY of my roaches even attempt to fly.. well, my dubia fluttered once when I tossed it into the air to SEE if it would flutter. I had to catch it as its fluttering didnt even hold it aloft. (no roaches were harmed in anyway in the tossing)
Thats a cool video! THANKS

LOL... I've tried that too! But it didn't work. He just plopped to the floor. It seems like they fly when they feel like it. I'm guessing most of mine do it because they're uncomfortable having too many other males around, but my lateralis started doing it within the first couple of days I had 'em and there was only one adult male at the time.
