Ok, their have been a ton of threads...but for you misfortunates please post your experiences here. Species, method of escape, suspected number of escapees to begin with, how colony was eliminated, and possible reasons why they were able to establish outside their home.

Hissers...

Had like 100 or so variety of sizes escaped cause I accidently forgot to COMPLETELY shut the lid to the container.

For the next month or so I thought my house could speak to me and it hated me because every time I open the closet or shut the door there would be a bunch of hissing sounds coming from all directions.

I only caught like 7 or so...the rest ended up dying because I found quite a few dead roach bodies around.

I think I made a thread answering ur questions a long while ago too. You should read it, its very informative.

Their are a number of threads here, but I thought it'd be nice to compile all the positives.

Btw, by infestation I do NOT mean roaches getting out and surviving for a few weeks/months. They should actually establish themselves somewhere, remain healthy, and attempt to breed. I believe their are only a few such cases.

my friend had a colony of hissers escape once and they all lived for about a year and a half before they all died, they bred to.

I waited a long time before taking the plunge and getting roaches for this very reason---that and for some reason, roaches just gross me out. I live in San Diego and almost anything that doesn't require too much cold will naturalize here. Fortunately, I haven't had any escapees (I had a couple try, but my dogs got them{D ).

this fits the letter of the thread, but probably not the spirit... i have had my feeder roach colonies infiltrated (not really infested, but i guess technically yes...) by german roaches.

i am happy and sad about this. i would like another tiny feeder species... but then if *do* become established in my colonies i lose the defense against neighbors that i only keep exotics that can't infest (stretched to pretty much a lie since i keep Blatta lateralis heh). plus any exiting german problems can be blamed on me.

i will probably purge them out of my colonies. plus i don't jive with ooth layers so they haven't really established themselves in my colonies yet... just sort of barely hanging on

I have had hundreds if not thousands of lateralis get loose. I knocked over a jar full of the little buggers. Good news is they never lasted very long, seem to dehydrate quickly in a heated or air conditioned house.

We keep seven different types of roaches....two of which we sell/trade regularly and feed from....I'm positive that we have had an escapee or two that went unnoticed.
We have never had an infestation.......'course - we live in Michigan, too. Gets very cold here for about 5 months...hehehehehe :D
We have had T's escape...and be gone for years - and then re-found.....does that count?
