Ive been keeping an Australian bull ant (Myrmecia species) as a pet and she has recently passed away. Unlike a lot of bull ants, she had a really nice temperament. She was very calm and very accepting. Obviously, a lot of bull ants can be highly strung, defensive and standoffish. Though not her. I could place food near her with my fingers without any issues. I think out of all the inverts Ive kept, her passing has has been the hardest emotionally. Perhaps because Ive kept her the longest (over a year.) She can be seen in my avatar.

That avatar image is actually a frame grab from some video footage I recorded of her with a macro lens. Unfortunately, there are some dust spots in the footage. When I manage to clean it up, I'll post the video.

Yeah it’s sad insects and many bugs don’t live long I’ve lost a lot of roaches before a year old this year. And they are supposed to live 12-24 months so it was sad 😢… I got them as feeders but only intended on feeding a small amount off to keep them going . I’m a lot sadder losing a t but roaches are cool themselves.

Thank you. It might take some time to remove those dust spots from the footage.

I wasn't 100% sure of this but I my suspicions that she may have been a queen. In that case, she would have lived for around a decade. Of course I had no idea of her age when she was caught.
