Well, I got two really healthy Fishing spiders from a show in the UK the other day. A male and female Ancylometes_bogotenensi with the intention of mating them then sending the male over to Nik (Metal Dragon boy).

But guess what....I now only have ONE Ancylometes_bogotenensis!! The female. I fed her up with crickets to start with and all was going well. I got her up to a nice temperature for a day and she seemed active enough to me so I introduced the male. He was tapping happily and all went well. I never saw any copulation but they were doing so well I left them to it and guess what

....munch, munch, he was lunch!!!!

$20 quid down the drain and and I don't even know if I'll get a sack from it.

Sorry Nik!!!

You killed one of my boys!!!
How long was he in with her?
When ours mated it took about 15 minutes before she had recovered from her mating trance. If he was in much less than that he probably didn't get a chance.
Our first egg sac has just hatched by the way :)

You killed one of my boys!!!
:( Well, you sure know how to make me feel bad Martin :(

I was gutted, bigtime! I'd fed her up so I though she wouldn't have a go at him. I placed him in, in a shark cage and he was making the right movements I thought. She never moved a muscle. After a while I placed him into the tank un-caged.

All was calm and I needed to take a call, probably 30-45mins after putting him in uncaged. I came back after the call and all was still calm. But there was some interaction. Left them a bit longer, came back and he was toast. I wish I'd never left them at all now but I suppose a 1000 spider owners have said the same over the years. I was gutted! Really gutted as he was a lovely specamin and I intended to let Metal Dragon boy use him next.

So, now, I have one very fat, maybe/maybe not gravid female. Any idea on gestation period from the experience with yours?

Hows that finger with the scorp sting doing? I keep looking at this little scorp and laughing..lol

BTW, I mailed you just now.

I vote for gravid!

If that were one of my female Hogna carolinensis, I'd already be picking out the colors for the nursery:D

Sorry, didn't mean to upset you ;-)
The ones we mated all got down to it fairly quickly. In fact most of the time the female actually seemed to go up to the male and plonked her self down in front of him (come and get it big boy). Mating itself seemed to take about 10 minutes or so and then the female sat and cleaned herself up. Thats when we removed the males. Even the one male that seemed to not know what to do didn't get attacked after rolling off the peice of bark with her in his arms.
Gestation was about 12 days before the egg sac was laid and about 10 days to hatch.

Now have 3 large clutches of young :)

We have also just had the last male mature. Going to give him a go with one or two of the other females and then put him out to stud if you want him

Hi Martin,

She huge now and this makes the 11th day since mating so with any luck I could see a sack this weekend. If it is a no-show I'll drop you an email and see if I can have that little male off you (If you trust me to not get him eaten!!! Argg..)

Thanks for the update,

Good luck with them Glen! If you do get a sac, you can put me on your 'sling waiting list' :D

He didn't die for nothing.

Last night she made a web hammock in the roof of a pot in her tank. This morning she is walking around proudly showing off a little-white-ball-off-delight!!! Sac time!

Martin: Did you rmeove your straight away?

More images to follow. I didn't want to disturb her today really.
