Ribbon Snake

We have an adult Ribbon that we got several months ago and now all of a sudden it wants to burrow. Is this common of the sp.? In all the time we have had it there was never any tendency towards this behavior but it seems to live under the surface of the substrate now. Any help would be appreceated.
