So I tried to avoid being "that guy", you know the one(who makes a thread when doing a quick search would have sufficed)but no such luck

So quick background 3 years ago I set my 20L up with a false bottom then purchased two 2i and all was fine until the first molted then a week later the second did and before it's exoskeleton hardened the first ate it.

So 8 months later all was going great, I was breeding my own crickets and I had just stopped obsessing over the temp and humidity then I had to move and my new place didn't turn the power on until my second day there and as it was January my emp died so I put the cage in the closet until now I'm just starting to set it back up.

Previously I just put cardboard inside of the screen and cut out two holes to match the size of the lamps and as I no longer wish to do the false bottom setup I'm thinking is more important to make sure I have some way of maintaining humidity and plexiglass seems like the preferred method but I cant seem to find any post on what people are using as a heat source.

On hand I have a standard lamp with infrared bulb, porcelain lamp with ceramic heat emitter and 2 under tank heaters any advice would be appreciated and my apologies for the long post

I have a similar set up to the one you just described except instead of using plexiglass i just use normal glass because i found it to be cheaper and i can cut it myself. I have several tanks set up with the glass lid and use 2 different styles of heating just becasue those were the heat sources I had available at the time. On 2 set ups I use a heating pad stuck to the side of the tank. On 2 other set up I use a ceramic heat emitter. Both set ups work great.
A few things to look out for, make sure you have a thermometer in the tank since the temps can get a lot higher once its covered by the glass. Also, if you are going to use the ceramic heat emitter or the infared bulb, be careful about leaning them on the glass, the first time I did this it got way too hot and actually shattered the glass it was resting on. To fix the problem I made a stand out of copper pipe and some spare wood I had laying around. The stand elevates the ceramic heat emmiter 5 or 6 inches off the glass and the temps work out great. Good luck.
