Hes 18, and todays his last day with us. Hes just too old, arthritic, and sick to go on. Just shoot me. Its only been 1 year and 21 days since I lost my Lacey, and now its happening again. At least I got a full life with him though... :(

I am so sorry! The empty feeling inside is horrendous, and the hole in your heart must seem tremendous.
There is nothing anybody can say or do to you to feel better or to ease the pain - only time will ever so slowly heal the wounds.

My thoughts are with you today.

I'm sorry for your loss. I had to make the same decision a few month ago and it was very hard for me. Not many things in this world are capable of making me cry. That was one. So I definately know how you must feel.

I hope you feel better soon.

He looks so beautiful and peaceful.

Here is a poem (which you might already know) that comforted me personally when my Golden Retriever left this world:

THE RAINBOW BRIDGE

"Just this side of Heaven is a place called Rainbow Bridge.
When an animal dies that has been especially close to someone here,
that pet goes to Rainbow Bridge.

There are meadows and hills for all our special friends so they can run and play together.
There is plenty of food, water and sunshine, and our friends are warm and comfortable.

All the animals who had been ill or old are restored to health and vigor;
those who were hurt or maimed are made whole and strong again,
just as we remember them in our dreams of days gone by.

The animals are happy and content, except for one small thing;
they each miss someone very special to them who had to be left behind.

They all run and play together,
but the day comes when one suddenly stops and looks into the distance.
His bright eyes are intent;his eager body quivers.
Suddenly he begins to run from the group, flying over the green grass,
his legs carrying him faster and faster.

You have been spotted, and when you and your special friend finally meet,
you cling to each other in joyous reunion, never to be parted again.

The happy kisses rain upon your face;
your hands again caress the beloved head,
and you look once more into the trusting eyes of your pet,
so long gone from your life but never absent from your heart.
Then you cross Rainbow Bridge together........"

Sorry to hear bout that SS, It's a tough decision to make. Do what I did, it kinda helps. I made qa shadow box with my Raif's ID tag, piece of his fave blanket, pics, and etc with a little story about his life on the back of the box. If you do it nice enough, it's suitable to hang on the wall. Thats where mine is :)

Hey Soc, that was a great although very sad, post above. Makes me think about my Raif. He was a pit and died last year..I had to put him down. :(
