There was an interesting test done on a youtube vid I watched with a study on how Pterinochilus Murinis react to threat and what they discount as a possible threat. He used two diferent P. murinis, allowed them to wander around on the floor in a room. He waved his hand above one, which immediately went into threat stance. He then set a large item nearby the wandering P. murinis, again, it immediately went into threat. Lastly, he placed his hand on the floor and slid it towards the OBT. The P. Murinis did not attack nor go into threat posture. Both P. Murinis displayed these same reactions (though, I personally would have tried sliding another object towards the OBT rather than my hand). He came to the conclusion that the P. Murinis saw anything larger or higher than it's self as a potential threat and anything lower is discounted as a possible threat. Being as large as we are, however, would mean we need to keep our arms fairly outstreached to avoid threatening the P. Murinis... IF this does hold true to a majority of the species.

BTW Ms Moonkin, a absolutely beautiful spider.. and watch those pretty hands of yours!

IME, I've had T's throw up threats to my hand in the same manner as you described above. It truly depends on the individual.

A tarantula is 110% defensive in their own enclosure, but once out they will react differently to things. IMHO, there is nothing conclusive about this experiment, except for the fact that the guy has two awesome OBT specimens. :p
