Happy New Year!!!! To kick off 2010, I would like to show my gratitude to everyone who's been supportive during the last year and finally show a one-on-one with my most obnoxious girl.

Desirae is my psycho P. cambridgei, and she was due for some new digs........and it was a pretty wild ride as I rehoused her in my traditionally intimate manner. :D

Great video man thanks for sharing. BTW what camera are you using?
Thanks!!! All I have is a Kodak EasyShare ZD710, so it's not like it's even a real video camera, LOL.

Thank you!!! There really is nothing to fear freehandling your T's. Just be smart, let the spider make the rules, and don't give them a reason to bite. :p

I just would rather not get bit. So i treat them like any other venomous animal i own. I give them space.

Awesome vid Steve! I love the intro and closing.. it really sets it apart from all the other rehousing vids.

My favourite part... "Next time, I'm going to tuck my pants in my socks" {D

For real!!!!! She went climbing for my pant leg and all I could think was "Holy crap, now I'm going to be stripping on YouTube....." {D {D

The intro/outro thing was just to do something different, but I think I'll be keeping that format and see how it works.

Thank you!!!! She is quite the looker!!!! You should post up some pics of yours....I'd like to see him.
I'm not even sure it is a he. It's just the way "he" looks ventrally. I'll try to get a new Nikon camera so I can get a macro image of it. He's not even 2". {D

Well, P. cambridgei can be a tough species to sex ventrally, although he is big enough that you can send off the next molt to be sexed.

I thought about it, but I didn't want to stink up the enclosure with my foot stench, LOL!!!!

Thanks Tommy!!!! They are a beautiful species, get to a good size, and from what I hear, they are supposed to be pretty calm. However, Desirae is one in a million, and not your typical P. cambridgei!!!

Hey man, nice spider. I have a few comments to make, and I hope they don't sound condescending or anything, I'm only offering constructive criticism...

1. I noticed a beer(?) in the background? While you were likely not drunk, sending the message that alcohol and arachnids mix is not a good idea, IMO.

2. The area in which you're doing the transfer is one that could easily lead to the escape or injury of the spider. A hard floor such as that is not a good surface for freehandling, if the spider were to fall it would likely be injured. A carpeted floor or a bed is a much better stage for such activity IMO. I always transfer any speedy, nervous spiders in my bathtub, so they have nowhere to go if they decide to bolt. Recapturing them is much easier if necessary.

Other than that, good job on the video......be safe & enjoy your bugs!

Thanks Dave!!!! I truly appreciate the constructive criticism, and the manner of which you presented it. I did not take it as condecending at all, but rather as good refresher information for others reading this thread, as well as myself.

In my defense of the beer, I had just cracked it, LOL. Like a dolt, I forgot to remove it before filming. Considering the T that I was about to be holding, my image wasn't exactly the first thing on my mind. A drink to calm the nerves is acceptable, but I wholeheartedly do not condone intoxication and freehandling!!!!!!

Unfortunately, my bathroom is too small to be doing transfers and there is no carpeting in my place at all. I did consider putting down something soft, but did not deem a falling injury to be a risk with her. I will definately be sure to increase security measures next time, though.

Steve,

Thanks for being so accepting of my comments. I'm glad they did not sound like I was "coming down on you" or anything like that. I always enjoy seeing spiders portrayed in a positive light and observing how other hobbyists work with their animals.

You did a good thing IMO by handling her on the floor. I always try to do this when working with my spiders, or at least decreasing the distance of a potential fall as much as possible. Of course, with some spiders they can be rather uncooperative and take matters into their own hands (legs), lol.

Again, thanks for allowing me to provide some insight and I look forward to future exchanges of info with you. :)

Nice video... The only thing I would suggest is maybe allowing your caption boxes to stay up a little longer. Someone who is a slow mover like me has trouble keeping up with them.. :) Good job though...

Thanks!!! I had noticed that too, and will promptly get on fixing that.
