Rehoused three T's over the weekend...one of my A. hurianas, my A. metallica, and my Homeomma sp.

Huriana's new tank...had this hexagon shaped one i've been fiending for for quite some time, finally splurged a lil and shelled out $23 at Petsmart while buying crickets and cat food (one and the same no? lol). Modified it with my new 12V cordless DeWalt drill for improved arboreal housing ability :D My hand hurt after drilling all those holes...i predrilled the ones on the top before stepping up to the 3/8" bit. Didn't predrill the ones on the side and had no worse luck with chipping/splitting (two or three small cracks, a few chips here and there but nothing bad) so I saved my hand some cramps and some time hehe

lil shorter than a credit card

Metallica is right at 4"

it's not nearly as bad as it looks...and not sharp either. It is also glued in at a steep angle close to where the front screen fits in to help keep crickets from hiding.

I was waiting for it to make a mad dash for freedom taking these two pictures with the front off lol.

It's the only T i have that has gotten away from me...and that was during it's initial unpacking. Took off across my kitchen floor in one foot near-spurts (like it wasn't used to walking horizontally...clownish :p0...i was scrambling for a capture cup while my gf is telling me i better catch it hahaha. It's been fine since then though...isolated incidences aside, only my lil Homeomma (about 1.25" now) and my 1.5" A. braunshauseni ever consider escaping.

Anyway...i was kinda proud of the new tanks I made, not a ton of stuff in them but I wanted to keep it fairly open in case i needed to catch them. Just wanted to share some of these pics because I know people like to see enclosure pics, especially if they're new to the hobby or it is a species they haven't kept before.

i dont think the 10g is to big for the metallica. i think it fits it fine.

oh and btw where did you get that oxygon tank from? how much did it cost? those would work well for arboreals? do you know the dimensions?

thanks alot! and once again great job! :worship:

id love to see your other T enclosures.

The hexagon tank is an Exoterra brand...i think, have to double check when I get home. It was $23 + tax...not sure on dimensions, i'll measure after work and post back. The only "problem" I ran in to was figuring out how to access it for maintenance...see my next post

Open? oh...i guess I forgot to take that in to account :D

No...i took the lid and traced the outline on a piece of the cardboard that the tank came in and cut it out. I placed the cutout inside the lid so I could put the substrate on it without it falling out all over. So the only way I can open it is to lift up the entire plastic part leaving the lid behind. I'll take a picture of it seperated when I get home too. I hot glued everything to the plastic and nothing to the bottom, so when I lift it up the corkwood, plants, and all that go with it :D My logic was that as an arboreal it's instinct will be to run up to get away so there'll be less chance of it escaping this way rather than having the lid on top. Trust me...I sat there for about 10-15 minutes straight scratching me head trying to decide how I was gonna pull this off lol.

If I only had a dremel tool I could do some more cool stuff...put that on my wish list hehehe.

As promised...

ok...i'm posting late but usually I forget :D

the tank is 7" wide from flat side to flat side, 8" wide if you go from point to point across. It is also 10" tall.

Everything pretty much "hangs" in mid-air when you take the top off.

OH wow! thats cool! and thanks for the demensions and price!

i think the lid being the bottom is really awesome! it seems like itll work better then having it at the top for the reason you stated, but if somone really doesnt like it then cant you just flip it upside down?

sure you could put it right side up...i haven't really had any trouble doing my avic tanks like that as long as they don't try to spin their web and attach it to the lid.

nice, I like the long, slender stalks in there...mine likes to crawl up the underside of the fake bamboo stick and walk around upside down. I saw it yesterday evening doing this for the first time...it tried to walk up the top side of the stick and then flip itself over when it got to the top. But...that wasn't working so well, i wanted to laugh but I was also concerned it would fall. I figured it would be fine though, it is an arboreal after-all...and since that one time it has gone straight up the underside so it doesn't have to contort itself (ever seen a T try to twist half of it's body around? kinda comical).

isnt it a little dangerous when you take the bottom off tha cage cause it looked like he could jump out. you should cover it with cardboard or something whenever you open it. other than that, nice settup!:worship: :worship: :worship:

it could...but being arboreal and in my experience, they prefer to run up rather than down. Or, if they have an established home they will run in to it.
