I've never used peat for any reptiles because peat is very dusty and dries out quickly. I know I hate when inhaling it. Why not try newspaper or cypress mulch? Jungle mix, aspen, and bed-a-beast are also substrates that can be used.

What about that repti-carpet stuff? Looks nice and easy to clean. Is it allright for snakes in general?

I would stay away from those products. You can't spot clean them, which means that everytime the reptile defecates you have to pull out the whole carpet and disinfect it. It is also not good at retaining moisture for keeping an enclosure humid. You might as well just use newspaper. At least this is cheap and can be discarded after use.

I use paper towels for all of my snakes. It might not be the most attractive setup but is most certainly the easiest to clean and most sanitary. Newspaper is great but the print can rub off on the occupant.
