hey i was just wondering if my pixie has red leg. around the joints of the frogs legs is a small patch of orangish color. being new to frog keeping i didnt know if that was redleg or not but if it is was hoping to catch it early. i dont have a working camera but any tips would be awesome.

moose is correct. :) Pyxies can have gorgeous orange/yellow patches around their legs. ( http://www.adambouskila.com/wp-content/uploads/african-pyxie-frog.jpg )

Red Leg (or at least the Red Leg in Xenopus) is typically observed with heavy sloughing of skin (not the normal thin shedding) and/or the development of small wounds that look either like road rash or chemical burns. Sometimes there is red "speckling" due to burst blood vessels under the skin. Typically the wounds are localized to the abdomen, abdominal sides and lower extremities ( http://www.xenopus.com/redleg4.jpg ). I don't see it as much in our colony, but the classic symptom is pure red rear legs due to the bursting of blood vessels.

Enjoy your frog! I just got 2 Pyxies and I love 'em! :D
