Today i found my red trapdoor spider out of its burrow and on top of the substrate in the famous death curl. I was pretty bummed out but it hasnt really been eating or anything for quite some time. Maybe i wasnt keeping it humid enough? Anybody else had similar problems with trap door spiders? I dont think ill be getting another one.

Sorry for your loss. I have had similar problems with red trap door spiders. In both instances they wouldn't even burrow. However, I have a black trapdoor that is doing great, so maybe try some different species. Did you have the substrate moist?

that was definitly the problem, since they almost never leave their burrow(only at night etc) they need the humidity,i had one years back, kept it kinda moist, but when i looked in it's hole it was dying(starting to curl up,i put alittle water down there, and within an hour it was fine and back to it's meal old self:razz: so just keep the substrate pretty moist and it should fine, the ones i have now are doing great,so definitly get another......you'll be glad you did:D

That's very interesting. I'm sorry to hear about your loss. I have a red trapdoor that hasn't eaten in at least 3 months! I keep it fairly moist in the enclosure and in its burrow, but it just never freakin' eats! I know it's alive because when I try to pull it's burrow lid open, it grabs it and pulls it against me. Then I watch her push it back up and reseal it. I can't believe that she's still alive, but the whole humidity thing has me pretty intrigued. A friend of mine has one as well, and he has never watered his at all and it has had no problems at all. It eats every time a cricket comes anywhere near the lid to its burrow.
