have her this snake nearly 13 years since it was a hatchling. It has always been docile and tame. Eats readily and never has had a problem shed. Plump and healthy. Tonight I was going to give it a change of water and it bit me! Even drew blood! Never had this response before! It ate a mouse less then a week ago. Any ideas why it would behave this way? Is it heading toward the end of its life span? Perhaps just hungrier due to the warm weather? Any insights? Simply odd because it has never behaved like this before.
Thanks
Kerry

Sometimes, even the most loyal pets will lash out at their owners if they're in physical pain. When my dad was little, he had a big, sweet tomcat that got hit by a car. When his father ran over to him, the cat bit him right through the nose! You might watch for signs of illness, and possibly a vet visit...good luck!

Thanks! No physical symptoms noticd and does not appear to be distressed. I am going to get her a mouse tomorrow and check her response. Has always been an avid feeder!

Do you feed in a seperate container? Sometimes, the heat this time of year really cranks up a snakes metabolism...

Was anything cooking at the time, or had you been handling any meaty foods? I know this may sound strange, but my corns will sometimes react to the smell of cooking chicken when hungry.

Finally, could you have disturbed him while he was sleeping? Sometimes it's hard to tell due to the lack of eyelids.

Just the fist few things that popped into my head......
