red mulch for hissers?

ive seen hissing roaches kept on cypress mulch,but the natural colored kind.is the red cypress mulch dangerous for roaches?is that an actualle dye on the wood?

I know that some mulches are made out of aspen, which is dangerous to inverts, and there might be chemicals in colored mulches. I would say not to use it.

aspen isnt dangerous to inverts, it is a hard wood not a soft wood, so there are no harmful oils, but i know soft woods like cedar and pine are harmful to inverts. i keep some roaches on aspen and it works just fine.

I've found Pyncoscelus surinamensis in the wild in "red mulch." But that was outdoors where there's plenty of ventilation.
I'd say that if it's a softwood, it's a no-go.
