Indeed they are, thanks for your note. In addition to that mentioned in the article, I saw very complex interactions in a group of Aldabra Tortoises once under my care. they were fed on cafeteria trays, and were quite aggressive at feeding time (and otherwise!). Several would squat down over the trays, then back up, eat what was exposed, back up more, eat, etc., in order to limit the amount of food exposed to their neighbors!
