A question for anyone that keeps this species. My two sons really want me to get red eyed tree frogs. They both understand that they are a look not touch type of pet. I have never kept frogs before but I have plenty of experience keeping varieties of tarantulas with different environmentel needs. If I am going to do it I want to do it right so I thought it would be a good start to ask any experienced keepers what I should use for a vivarium/terrarium. I want to have the setup complete and planted before I acquire any frogs.

My initial thought was to go with an Exo Terra 36x18x36 glass terrarium. If I am doing the calculations right then the approximate volume of the tank should be equal to a 100 gallon tank. I would expect that we will have a colony of at least 6 frogs when all is said and done and I know interior space can be consumed by sticks, bark, small logs, and plants. The true unknowns besides the type of tank to start with are more of the method to control inside optimal tank conditions. Temperature adjustments and humidity along with air turn over to keep it from being stagnant.

I'm not sure where you are located but there is a good reptile rescue/ store that does great with theirs. I few tips I learned, full moss ground cover coupled with live plants typically covers the humidity and air exchange needs.

They do require a daily misting as well. Isopods make a clean up crew and a little light froggy snack as well.
