I saw this rabbit near a field where a wild eastern cottontail was. Some people said it looks like a domestic rabbit, but ive seen pictures of eastern cottontails that were born with reddish or white fur and it looks identical. Perhaps its siblings knew to stay hidden, mabye this one didnt have the best eyesight because it only ran away when I got really close.

I am open to the possibility that this is an eastern cottontail. I swear I seen a melanistic raccoon a week or so ago. At least you have a picture of your animal.

I do not know much about bugs but I do know rabbits. I use to breed in high school and have since volunteered time at a local rabbit rescue. I would put money on this being a domestic rabbit that has been released into the wild. The lack of an agouti pattern and apparent lack of fear is what leads me to think this is a domesticated rabbit. Poor thing will probably not make it in the wild.

All I know is that's literally the cutest thing I've ever seen.

After I saw this photo of young eastern cottontails this is why I had thought it was.
