I'm reluctant to ID a Tarantula with a picture.

BUT

Red Baboon is a listed common name for a Hysterocrates gigas and that is not one of those.

If I had to guess I would say that you have a
Pterrinochilus murinus other wise known as an OBT - Mombasa Golden Starburst. and many other names

from a pet shop in liverpool UK, im actually a bit scared now! is this 1 more dangerous than my P.Regalis or H.Lividum????
No, it may be more defensive then a regalis but the venom isn't as strong. They are super fast though, be careful when you have to rehome.

First of all, congratulations on your P. murinus! They are excellent tarantulas, very bright beautiful colors, fast and have an attitude to boot! I currently have 9 slings around 1.5" and i have 1 adult female around 4" or so. The bite is rumored to be bad and there is a lot of people that say how defensive and fast they are, but in my experience dealing with the ones that i have they rather run and hide than anything else. However, they are definately capable of fast bursts of speed and they can jump. Also, upset one and it will give you a very nice threat display ;). Good luck with your OBT and i hope you enjoy it as much as i enjoy mine!

That explains it. The pet store probably made up their own name. Your P. murinus has a much more dangerous attitude than your P regalis. Although your regalis is more toxic, the chances of getting bit by it are much smaller.

This is indeed a Pterinochilus murinus because the mark on the abdomen are'nt those of the Pterinochilus lugardi.

They got a very large distribution in the wild, wich can explain why they have different color form (Red Color Form, Usambara Mountain Variant, Typical Color Form, Dark Color Form). They are found from Angola to Kenya and from Kenya to South Africa, so they are found in most of the central - south Africa. They usually have a defensive behavior and their venom will give you a bad time depending on the how many fang penetraded, how many venom been injected, your tolerance to venom and pain, your size, your health, etc ... : "Burning pain sensation, cramps, sweating, head ache, sometimes vomites, sometimes breathing difficulty. As they are found in many area, they are found in many kind of hide ; they can be burrower's, terrestial, arboreals, they will accept 'em all. Richard Gallon found Pterinochilus murinus in little cratere (little crack, where they developated a cocoon of web), sometimes in deep burrow, also in big mass of branch where the specimen builded a cocoon of web and live more as arboreal, and they are also found under rock's - wood, so housing them is'nt really a problem

Very easy to breed, a sac containt about 100-200 spiderling, and they are well know to produce 2 even 3 fertile sac with only one mating. They hide a lot, you can be 3 month without seeing a single leg without a problem, and dont need to worry about it. They like their environment dry of course as they're native to Africa, so you dont have to worry about humidity, just give a light spray every 3 week's (very light spray, couple of drop at the entrance of its hide). They will web a lot, feed well ... they are very easy to care of.

Personally, I would give to the Pterinochilus murinus the opportunity to make a burrow (I pre-make the burrow for the old specimen), I would add some branch outside the burrow so that it can extend the web outside, exemple:

One prime example of why scientific names are always better than the oft made up pet store names. They sell what sounds sensational and exotic.

Also another prime example of why doing your homework beforehand and attempting to better your knowledge of what most of the more commonly kept tarantulas look like could be a good thing.

They sell them around here as starburst/sunburst baboons and usumbara baboons. But congrats I love my P. murinus. She is my pride and joy.
