Hi all,

Was out and about in the backyard today and found some terrarium additions. If any of you would like the snake or the skink I'm sure we can work things out. The main reason for this thread is I'd like to know what type of frogs I've caught...if you guys need better pictures let me know(they are kinda blurry  ) The little bugers wont stop moving around...

Highly unlikely since Calestus is from Texas, and Litoria infrafrenata is native to Australia ;). I'm not sure of which species of frog are native to Texas, but I'd guess it's a regular old Green tree frog.

The snake, I would think, is a rough greensnake(Opheodrys aestivus), very cool snakes. In fact my wife saw one this past weekend, and has informed me this is going to be her next snake. Hope to find one when we go camping/herpin, next weekend.

Rough Green Snake

I have heard they refuse to eat in captivity? Any thoughts on that?
I released the one in the pictures...they are quite prolific in my backyard. It was about 6" long. I spotted one that was maybe 16"ish long.

I think they are more easily stressed, than many snakes. Need a larger enclosure, than most people would think for such a small snake. We are going to try a heavily planted, twenty gal. high. If it does not eat, we will take it back to the location, it was captured. My wife just realy wants one, so I said we would try.

I don't think they're too hard to acclimate, at least relative to some other snakes (smooth green snakes, for instance, which are much more delicate). The big key (as zoo keeper said) is to minimize stress by providing lots of cover, climbing branches (especially with leaves or something similar to hide among) and leaving them alone. They're insect eaters. I don't know if the idea of insect-eating snakes seems weird to other people, but I've gotten so used to mammal-eaters that I sometimes forget that not all snakes ignore crickets.

I've seen one smooth green snake in my life, and they're amazing, much brighter than the rough ones and with smooth (duh, I suppose) scales.
