My new baby Chaco is only about .5" but she walkes around with her butt way up in the air. Is this a "Hey look how big I am , so don't mess with me" display? I have 4 other T's and never have I seen this before.

Dunno for sure, not seeing it, but sounds like it's annoyed and prepared to flick hair.

That is the "You're about to get the hairing of your life!" display. Many sp. assume that posture before kicking the urticating hairs at you. They don't always kick when in the butt-in-the-air posture but it definitely means they're ready to, just in case.

Hope that helps.

My chaco does that too.

Here's a link to a thread in which I posted a picture of my chaco walking around like that.

As some others said, it's a very mild threat posture common to a lot of Ts, particularly Grammostolas. It says in clear language that they're but one reach from unleasing a cloud of urticating hairs on you if you do anything worse than whatever prompted the butt raising in the first place.

Gary,
Very true..My blondi will do this. I thought it was just a display thing until I got hair kicked in my face. YOWCH! If Kaja does it now, I get the lid back down fast..:)
Peace,
Gillian

i have a 3/4" chaco that doesn't do this. it seems like a very mellow t. walks all over my hands, very, very slow and seems very happy. never gives any type of defensive/aggresive display.

i hope this is a good thing.

Sure that's a good thing. Every T is different as I'm sure you're aware. My adult pair of Chacos are both teddy bears but my little juvie is a complete spaz. It doesn't raise the butt too often but man it sure likes to run....fast!
