There will always be ignorant dimwits. Keep educating the world that snakes are not evil and most of them are harmless.

I posted a comment on the site. I'm sure the snake-haters will be out in force, though, to rebut it.

Feh. My cousin's husband, who KNOWS I'm a snake person, takes great delight in telling me about killing rat snakes on his property, and chopping up snake eggs he finds in his compost heap. I've pretty much stopped talking to him, the strain of being polite when I'd just rather strangle the bastard is too much. Here's hoping his house and grounds are overrun with rodents.

You should just gather up a dozen rattlesnakes and put them down his chimney or something.

That would probably end just as badly for the snakes, but I know what you mean; I probably wouldn't show as much self control as you seem to have, though.

And along those lines... Let us not forget, this mentality is very common in the US. The US is the most powerful influential country in the world. Those people will be voting for the president of the US this year. Is it any wonder the US has blundered, on average once every 20 years since it was founded, from one war to another? Consumes over 50% of the worlds natural resources with 3% of the worlds population. *

Anyway, a rat snake anecdote to cheer you up.
Friends of my family owned 6 acres of very expensive real estate in So. Cal. To be precise, 3 opulent luxury homes surrounded by 2 acres of ivy. In that ivy the rats dideth take up residence and bred a lot like rats. And the neighbors dideth complain to the health department about a surplus of rodents. And the health department dideth suggest that this garden of Eden in a sea of sludge that is So. Cal. would be better off without the ivy and the vast beautiful landscaped near jungle. And entereth me, with a pair of rat snakes which to the aristocracy of this wonderland seemed like the lesser of evils.
One year down the lane, rat appearances began to become scarce. This rat heaven, and going by google maps the only patch of ivy and greenery that size within 100 miles in any direction, became rodent free. Roll the time frame down a bit. A third generation of my families friends now live in that verdant preserve, still rodent free. On a very rare occasion, a curious reptilian nose or tip of a tail may be noticed, and the noticing family member doth smile and they go their blissful ways in peace.

*The above political announcement was brought to you by Politicians (and their electorate) Should Populate Saturn PAC.

What next? "But it's just a toddler! I don't see anything wrong with throwing it in front of a truck."
Oh wait, the Chinese already have that going for them.

Disgusting and sad. "OH NO! A HARMLESS SNAKE! BETTER KILL IT!"
And then the news channel. Is there really nothing better to do than report about a brutal killing of an innocent animal? At least they don't CONDONE it, giving advice.

Must have been a really slow news day.... like really slow..... "our next story: local woman turns 98!"

"Blue Skies, nice sun, the perfect day for a birthday party. That's what greeted the Johnson family earlier today when the 98th (that's right 98th!) Birthday celebration for eldest family member Edna Johnson was scheduled. All sixteen family members were there to help blow out the candles, and cake was cut a plenty."

Reporter: "how does it feel to be 98?"
Edna: "Actually my birthday was on Wednesday-"

"The Johnson family will never forget the passing of another year in the life of a true member of our community. Back to you Rick-"
