I recently bought 10 f/t rat pinkies from a pet store for my newly acquired Red Tail Boa, as I was told this is what she is feeding on. When I pull it from the bag I notice it had no head, paws or tail. In fact all 10 seem to have had their heads and paws severed. Is this normal???

Ive got a bp, and have purchased mice hoppers, and since they come intact, I was taken a back by this.

Never had this happen to me. I would say it is indeed odd.

When I worked at a petstore, pinkies that were in the freezer would often have body bits snap off ...but the fact that ALL yours are missing heads and paws is just plain odd.

I have gone through 100s of rat pinks and have never seen this.

Obviously one of the employees at the pet store got a little hungry.

I am guessing that the pet store you bought the pinkies from used the heads to feed smaller snakes, which can not eat a whole rat pink. It would be dishonest to sell incomplete prey items but I wouldn't put it past people these days.
