I have NOT had good luck with the critters lately. My neice, who is old enough to KNOW better (13), pulled on my rats tail the other day and pulled the end off of her tail!! 1.5 inches of skin fell off exposing the vertebra of her tail :( I was SO mad!! I had to find the joint and clip off her tail and do the whole disinfect thing on her. I felt so bad!! Her tail looks really good concidering. I thought it would get all infected and fester and kill her. Ive been keeping antibiotics on her and cleaning it and its healing nicely. Poor rat. Whats neat is she hasnt gotten a bad attitude about it all. I thought she would turn into an evil biting rat after that experience but she is just as sweet as ever!!
Kind of scary when your 2 yr old knows better than a 13 yr old on how to hold a rat!!!

Heres a picture of the rat and her poor tail.

Wow Michelle, you did a fantastic job with that tail! It'll heal in to time, I'm sure - especially in your care. :)

Your niece must have felt like pure crap when she realized what she did. I'm sure she'll never make THAT mistake again.

So good to hear that the pretty rat is still as loving as ever.

AAWWWW! Ouch!
Poor little rat :( That had to hurt like h***!
Glad to hear she's still a sweetheart though. Animals can be so forgiving, it's a good thing for children :p

It did hurt her really bad!! She was screaming really loud it just broke my heart!! Especially when I had to hurt her more and cut her tail between the joints :( Then she just whimpered for a while....I think it hurt me worse than her actually..

Socrates--My niece denies any involvement. She has some emotional disorders which involve lieing about everything. Even if you SAW her do it she will deny it. Kinda sad.

I had a breeder rat escape once, I dove after it with my hemostats (It was under an unmovable shelf--I couldn't reach with my hand, and nor would I want to, I would have lost my finger.) and came back with only the tail (About an inch or two).

Well, it escaped anyways, but I cought it a week later, it was scabbed over. And today (A few months down the road), the tail is more than fine. And that's with a week of it wandering around the house without any medical help.

So yours should be in great condition.
