Those are beautiful! What's the lifespan of Mokopirirakau granulatus?

Twenty to thirty years minimum?!?! That's a long lived lizard!
Yep, it takes two to three years, for them to reach sexual maturity, and even then, they will only have two babies per year... very slow breeders, but stunning animals!

@Matthew Vickers Are the depicted geckos all yours, or are some of them free-roaming? The Mokopirirakau granulatus have a few mites under their eyes which should probably be treated soon. Otherwise, they are all very exotic and neat-looking geckos to have living in your home and around it!

Yes, all of these geckos are mine, as it is illegal to catch, handle or disturb our native geckos, that are wild (stupid law, I know)... yes, am treating the mites, but they are very stubborn... the majority are treated, but there are still one or two that are lying around.
thanks for your concern.

Why is Australia and NZ so anal about well... everything? It's stupid and redundant. I understand the whole invasive thing, but still, "Sorry tim you can't keep this bug" "But it comes from North America, it'll die in our climate if I was an idiot and released it" "no"

Unfortunately, there are still a lot of those people who would just do those stupid things. People can be impulsive buyers or collectors (I have this bad habit sometimes) that have little clue on the "adventure" they will embark on with their new friend in the house, which they often set them off on the animals' own journey into the unknown to "do what's best for them". Pretty sure you wouldn't want many species from Australia anyway, because everything there is going to kill you in some way. New Zealand is also super protective about their species, as many of them are threatened/endangered and endemic only to that specific location. I wish it weren't so as well, but what you don't see is that there are many people (probably a vast majority) who are as clueless on this subject as you when you had just been getting into this field. Take a look at the Florida Everglades, and you'll know what I mean.

Rare? A vast understatement!

You realize that these are a holy grail for many gecko keepers across the world, right?

How are you even allowed to keep these? I've spoken to people who are knowledgeable about them; they're CITES-listed and my understanding is that even if you acquired them legally and legitimately, the authorities might still crack down on you "just in case". I don't necessarily agree with this method of enforcement, but I'm dying to know how you got to keep these.
