Some of you may have already heard that I rehoused my G. rosea, Charlotte, the other day. Well, I noticed that she was on the side of the tank yesterday and had venom dripping from her fangs onto the glass.
Today, we were temperment testing then holding my son's B. vagans (a sweetie by the way:)) and we just noticed that he (I'm positive this one is male) is doing his yoga pose where he stands with legs spread out against the tank. He has venom dripping from his fangs now too onto the tank. Why do they do this? Is this a reaction to the stress of being held by us for the first time since we received him and is Charlotte's a reaction to her rehousing?

It doesn't necessarily have to be venom... they clean out their mouth parts with liquid.

My P. pederseni had a drop of liquid on his mouth parts today... it's pretty normal to see.

That's good to know. Later, she was channeling her inner avic when we saw her saunter over to the side of the tank and squirt some poop. We've seen some interesting behaviors since the rehousing. I guess larger quarters bring out the spunk in a girl;)

I have a feeling Charlotte is not an uncommon name for a spider, though I can't figure out for the of me why! /sarcasm

Although, Charlotte was probably an orb weaver of some kind and not a tarantula. :\

I believe the 'real' Charlotte was an orb weaver as you surmised. Yes, sometimes I wish I had chosen another name and knew full well what I was getting into with it but she will remain Charlotte and there will be no other Charlotte just like her.;)

Many years ago, when I got my first tarantula (a G. rosea! Surprise!), I resisted as hard as I possibly could NOT to name it Charlotte. I remember this inner argument where I went back and forth on the Charlotte thing....yes because it just seems right...no because it's predictable... Ended up referring to the spider as, "that little bugger" for about a week before its name officially became "Bugger." Charlotte-crisis averted. :D

My G.pulchripes is named Charlotte. I agonized over calling her that, as I knew there were likely tons of Charlotte's out there lol

I ended up caving, she was my first and when I brought her home I was still somewhat afraid of her lol She needed a 'friendly" name, and who's afraid of the original Charlotte.

Now I just call her Char or pretty girl (I really hope Im right, or thats going to be one confused male ;) )

I am fond of giving 'scary' pets very unscary names. It also helps with other people's opinion of them when they hear a sweet name for them. I have found that most of the Charlotte names out there are given to G. roseas (rather than other spiders), or is that just me? I guess those that like friendly names also like friendly (supposed) spiders?:D

Once you get to like, 30-40 T's you'll stop naming most of them. Although I do have several named specimens most of my collection now is just "N. chromatus slings 1-4, P. regalis (MF), P. striata (MM), C. fasciatum 1-3" and so on. It's enough to keep track of what with proper sci-names, sexing, recording molts and all that I don't need to give them names. It's not like they come when I call...

My Rosie did the same thing a few days ago when I cleaned her tank. I think its just because they're uncomfortable/ angry. Haha

Shes ok now though.

No doubt. That spider toiled all day long on her intricate webs from what I recall from my childhood when I saw that movie. ;) And didn't she spell words in the webs also? Definitely the work of an orb weaver, if I had to make a guess.
