Our 1" Rio Grande Gold we got yesterday made a break for it, I am pretty sure it is gone because we have vents and I know it can get through. We had it in a small petcarrier and it got through. I thought maybe he/she was on the ground but I was wrong it got out. If anyone sees a Rio Grande Gold well send it back :)

Well don't give up because you never know when or where they will turn up. I would look and re-look in the area where it got away, and just maybe you will find it.

Hope this is good incentive to house your pets in enclosures appropriate for them in the future... too many people are losing animals when it could have been avoided... sorry to hear it, I hope you find it...

Well, mistakes are mistakes. And we're all human so it happens to the best of us sometimes. Don't beat yourself up over it or let anyone else get you down. Just think of it as a learning experience. The next time you get a spiderling, I highly recommend you place it in a delicup with a lid on it you commonly get condiments like salsa and ketchup in. I use them for all my slings and they work really good. You just have to poke holes in it for ventilation.

I totally agree. When I started out, I kept all my tarantulas in laundry baskets and used tinfoil for lids. Needless to say, I've had a few learning experiences since then. Now I use deli cups, and if I'm going to be out of the house for more than two hours I put the lids on. I've also instituted a maintenance program whereby I never open a tarantula cage less than six inches from an open window, drain, running vacuum or any other inaccessible shelter where a spider could take refuge. I know, it seems draconian, but I'm a stickler for these sorts of things. I've only had seventeen escapes since then, so I guess the proof is in the pudding! I like to call myself "the Warden of Tarantulacraz", being as security around here is so tight! I think "Tarantulacraz" is hilarious too. OMG!!!! I'm LMAO right now!

You said it was in a pet carrier, are you talking about a kritter keeper? It seems like a small kritter keeper should have been able to house a 1" sling.

Under 1" slings, I keep in vials or deli cups to avoid escape.

I hope you find it, just watch where you walk:)
