I know how you feel, sadly it's all too common, especially now since how viral the jumpers are everyone wants one even people that have never had any interest in keeping spiders. Should make some sort of test to be able to buy spiders just so you know that people have done there research before buying.

The unfortunate reality of fad pets.

There's a new cool dog every couple year that inevitably ends up clogging shelters.

In the worst timeline jumpers go the route of the goldfish. A cheap pet bought for a child on a whim that has a slim chance of surviving past the first month.

In the best timeline, the trend fades quickly.

I'm sitting here waiting on Royal mail With a new regal jumper just now, hope all is well though it got posted on Monday and royal mail as usual took it a tour of the UK before. From Portsmouth to Glasgow was the route but ended up in northern Ireland then over to Edinburgh and finally on its way to me today. It was a cold one last night too so fingers crossed.

is that the extension of your erlier post?

yea, that enclosure is a death trap, considering all the moving parts in there...

i am honestly more mad at the people selling these as ready made enclosures than at a mom trying to get their little girl into liking inverts. It's misleading ignorant people for profit and setting them up to fail.

The fact that they don't research proper care is bad, but honestly that trend is so common even amongst cat or dog owners you might as well drown the entire world in a second biblical flood if you wanted to rectify that problem.

I genuinely don't understand how people do *this little* research on their pets before they get one. The fact that she just was like "Hey, here's a spider. Cute, isn't she? Wanna hold her? Go on. Move the little COCOON around to see her, I guess. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯" irritates me so much. Was she not aware of how they use their web hammocks at all? I'm new to keeping jumping spiders, so obviously I'm not going to be excellent, but GOD. She also took the information as though someone was telling her that a gate was locked and she was acknowledging that for next time, rather than as though she was going to stop her brat of a child from poking at the spider in the next 2 minutes.

Welcome to Arachnoboards. Where people report freak outs about deadly spiders all the time while ignoring motor vehicle accidents statistics.

It's personal with me. From thiopental to machete upside the head I've had the obligation to kill several hundred animals thanks to ignorance or irresponsibility of humans.

And no reality check is on the horizon as we rage about salticid abuse.

@CRX I extend my abject apologies for this gloom and doom post and thread derailing. I can only offer my comparing homo erectus to modern man many times here on AB as one of the victims cleaning up the messes of our supposed enlightenment.
Now let's hear from the ones who have held the syringe or gun against an animals forehead, or worse.

Not rage, but I want to help educate them.
Yeah in a perfect world they would listen and learn, but, the people going for all this stuff are only in the game for a short period until the next new thing comes along. Got bad here with XL Bullys they even changed laws it's a shame for all the legit breeders and owners purely because of a trend.

Yeah, I see my comment there. This post made me so mad. It was so upsetting. The enclosure was worse than a dollhouse. No hides, nothing along the top. They mentioned how their daughter was moving a "cocoon" (most likely the hammock) around trying to get to the spider. They were so confused as to why their jumper passed. Everyone else was saying it was a mismolt but I don't think so.
