OK,
I know the first thing that comes to mind is "a spider guy getting all mushy over a Guinea Pig?" Hell yeah I am!
Sadly and most unfortunately, we had to put little Dudley down Sat. night 5/14/05 due to the fact that he had a terminal cancer that had manifested itself in his lungs and lymph nodes. We had a cancer on his back removed last year; I suspect this was the aggressive cancer that had spread.
He experienced a quick and abrupt drop-off in behavior, noticed on Wednesday, May 11. He had previously eaten and behaved normally. We took him in on Friday, May 13 (stupid omen! ), and the vet issued the standard tests. Poor Dudley's lungs had collapsed, and as a direct result, his breathing was as labored as Rosie O' Donnell's going up a flight of stairs. He also refused to eat or drink. We were given a false hope early Sat. when we learned he had neither heart nor did he have lung disease, but both of these became crushed when we went to visit him Sat night at the animal hospital, only to learn of the real culprit.
Given that Guinea Pigs "cavies" are such benevolent creatures, we refused to alllow Dudley to experience any unnecessary pain. Dudley was such a good friend to Mr Futzy, a Guinea to whom some of you have become acquainted due to an earlier thread, and a good friend to us as well.
Dudley had been abandoned at a pet shop back in Jan. 2004, and was in a very neglected state, and being the sucker I am, I took him home for rehab. He was in such a poor condition that I had to give him a fancy pants name. Never did I think he would blossom in the manner that he did, nor did I ever think he would create such a positive impact.
Good-bye old friend.
