Hey guys! I haven't posted in awhile, but wanted to share pictures of my adorable puppy I got for my birthday this morning, lol. She is an 8 week old "Jack-chi" She's a cross between a jack russel and a chihuahua. She has been sleeping in my lap since she got here, and follows me around if I get up, lol. We went for a run around the yard when we got home so she is tired out!
Any one have any advice for making sure she doesn't get TOO attached to me? I don't want a dog that has problems if I leave the house. Thanks guys! Pictures!

The first is how she slept on the way home, she put her head between her knees..she looks carsick
The second is her pretty collar (haha!), and the other two are her sleeping on pat. She is my baby all ready!

My baby jack-chi looked like that when she was a pup. She's 1 now.

Now you have an idea of what yours might look like. :)

and I swear Chai (my jackchi) had that SAME collar when she was little. Haha. They should be best friends.

These cutesy names drive me up the wall. {D Why don't we call a mutt a mutt anymore?

Regardless, adorable puppy you got there! Half Chihuahua and half JRT...man I bet she'll be a little monster when she's older, if the parents passed on breed-standard personality. {D Oh man. I'll leave the dog training advice to people with more experience though, and just wish you luck. (You'll need to do LOTS of socializing with other people and animals, I know that much. And no letting her get away with things you wouldn't let a bigger dog get away with, or carrying her around all the time. As I understand it, the latter can cause attitude/dominance issues and is a somewhat common problem with little dog breeds.)

Thanks for the compliments! Allie, they should definitely be friends! haha, how big is your girl?

And, I try not to carry her too much, mainly its when she goes out the first time in the AM or she doesn't quite make it out the door!

Im trying to find places other then the petstore to take her to meet people (shes scared of just about everyone else) and when shes got her shots she can start meeting dogs. I dont want one of those little dogs that thinks its 60lb and should rule the world, lol

Woops too late. Good luck with that. Are they not two of the craziest breeds. My nieghbor has a chihuahua and it is the meanest little thing I have ever seen. But I have to add it was abused badly. She got it from a rescue shelter. After six months it will finally walk by me and wag its tail instead of trying to eat my ankle. But I still have not tried to pet him. I like my fingers without holes.
But really, Good luck with it, it's a cute little dog. Might end up a big baby.

Lol, I know most are like that, but I'm going to try and not let her be that way.

I was shocked when I was picking her up, the guy said he had wanted to sell the pups for 700 dollars each...I definitely wouldn't have bought her then.. she was only 50. People are willing though, so it works for a lot of "breeders"

Ugggh one of THOSE places. Good on you for knowing better than to shell out a thousand bucks, because even though she's a cute puppy...yeah, "breeders" like that are a scam. :(

You can use the hundreds of dollars you saved to buy tons of toys and post pictures of her playing with them, right? Right?

(As an additional note, since the breeder sounds shady you'll need to keep a very sharp eye on your pup for genetic disorders. Both breeds, if not from stock carefully tested to prevent passing on bad genes, can carry some pretty unpleasant stuff. If you stay on top of vet checkups and saving money in case of emergencies, hopefully things will turn out all right. :) )

Yeah, there is no way I would have paid that much for her, much as I all ready love her! Her first vet visit is Wednesday, for a checkup and vaccinations (she hasn't had any yet). I'm hoping she stays a healthy girl, mom and dad looked good, though I know that doesn't guarantee she will be.

I swear she is insanely smart... she was alone in her crate from 1.30-6.30 today, no accidents. Course, she cried like a baby when she saw me and is now glued to me, but at least she doesn't pee on my floor!

I got my jackchi for free from a friend, haha.

She's about 15 lbs. I don't have a chance to take her out of the house much so she's terrified of the outside world. She's definitely a chewer and a jumper, though, which is the russell in her, so beware. :D But when she isn't running around like a crazy puppy, she's super-cuddly.

Haha thats Quinn! Isn't happy unless she is cuddling. Shes getting ready to take a nap under my blanket...on my stomach, lol. Did your pup bond real fast? Quinn was instantly attached to me. We try to go for walks, and she stays under my feet the entire time!

Chai is pretty attached to me. She follows me around the house but she does just play in the living room all by herself sometimes. When she was tiny she wouldn't leave me alone. I had to carry her up and down the stairs. I remember once, she was on my lap facing me and got the hiccups for the first time and her eyes were all wide and she was looking at me like, "What's goin' on, mommy?! Am I gunna be ok? :( "

She's scared of dogs or other animals her size or smaller, but she'll growl and bark at larger dogs, haha. She hates going out of the house. She chews up my pants ALL THE TIME. Haha.

And she likes bringing in rocks from the back yard and playing with them.

I really want to take her for walks, but she would hate it I bet because she's so scared of anywhere outside the house or the yard. :(

Aww, hehe she sounds a lot like Quinn so far! Quinn shakes like a leaf when ever there is anything new around, but I ignore her and we keep going, I figure if I give her attention, she'll continue, and if not, she'll get over it! She's getting used to her crate though! She only cries at first, or if she knows we are in the room...other then that, she lays down for a nap!

I would try that, if Chai would walk. She just sits on the ground and won't budge. :(

I hope Quinn does/will walk like Chai, because it's adorable. She prances. Haha.
