I live in Cedar Park just north of Austin Tx. These things ARE really cool! It's just that I've had so many, I kind of take them for granted. I take one or two bug hunting trips every spring. I'm close enough to the desert areas to do that. Idealistically, I like to keep them in a 10 gal with about 6 inches of sub and definitely a rock or something to dig under. But I've kept them in big jars and even fish bowls with allot of sub. I had good luck with watching them reproduce. Pretty crazy! I have seen one tailless whip out there. But, including it's legs, it was only the size of a dime. At first I thought it was a Huntsman or a Harvester. I looked a little closer...a tailless! Even though it was small, I was pretty fired up. I had seen them move slow in TV shows, so I thought it would be easy to catch. I was about as wrong as I could get on that one. Really fast! Ran sideways like a crab. Just disappeared! No, can't be kept communally. The females will fight each other to the death. I haven't let that happen but it's obvious it would have. The males approach each other hoping the other is a female. Once they figure out there is not a female there, they just stop wrestling each other and walk away. It's pretty rough looking when a male first grabs a female but if you just let it happen, you will see that it will be fine. If she doesn't like him, she will let him know. She will push him away...ha, pretty funny. I found this one with it's tail broken off. Haha, yea when you come across one in the wild, man they really strike a mean looking pose and wag that tail trying to get a good aim. They will even move forward and try to pinch at you! But they calm down real fast...zinto said:Where are you, Galapoheros? I've always thought these guys are so cool. How big of a tank do you usually keep them in? Do you see tailless whipscorpions as well? Can these guys be kept communally? You're right about thier reputation though, I've always been told they are slow and very passive, and I've definitely never seen one in the pose of your picture! That is really cool! Did something happen to it's tail though? Thanks for contributing!
