This is my first post here so sorry if its not formatted properly or whatever. Picked up this young tailless whip scorpion from a local pet store a few weeks ago (it was listed in store as Phrynus Mexicanus, but to my knowledge that was reclassified so I have no clue what species this guy is). It seems to be doing alright feeding on flightless fruit flies and occasional crickets, but my one concern is that the enclosure I have it in is not big enough for it to safely molt. It's leg span (antenniform) is ~ 3 inches. Sorry for bad picture quality but hopefully you can get and idea of the size of everything, mini toothpaste for scale. This is my first tailless whip scorpion so any advice or tips are greatly appreciated.

Mine molted just fine the first go in a smaller space. They just need to be able to cling to somthing and use gravity to slip out. Mine molted a second time on top of the mesh but I feel like there wasn't anything for him to grab against to help with leverage. Your setup should be fine for now. I had mine for 3yrs in a exoterra vivarium as an adult. This guy is pretty small still so should be fine. Just make sure you do some indirect misting to help with the molting process. I'm bumbed mine passed during its molt cause I feel it had complications being just on the mesh but it was definitely wild to watch. 20230107_003024.jpg 20230625_001454.jpg 20230625_001532.jpg

Thanks for the advice, and sorry to hear yours passed away. Do you know what species yours was?

To my Knowledge all I know is Tanzanian Tailess Whip. I'm not entirely knowledgeable on the species but he seemed to be on the large size after he molted when he passed. Never truly categorized him cause it was just really tough to identify being so many. He did very well in my care though enough to where he kept molting and eat pretty much every offering. So I guess I was doing somthing right with him haha.

Enclosure looks good, especially if yours is still in the fruit-fly eating stage. Maybe move to a tall Tupperware a molt or two later, but this guy looks fat and happy right now

Mine molted on the top like that recently as well. I am not sure why they seem to like going on the mesh but I guess it gives them more exploration space.

Well the better gravity they have to lock onto the better they will molt. So i mean I guess the mesh just has the best spot to hook onto
